How to study maths: a skill to train, not a subject to revise

Most maths struggle is method struggle. The subject punishes the study habits that work everywhere else, rewards a small set of unglamorous moves, and forgives almost any history once the method is right.

Students arrive at maths with habits built on reading subjects: read the chapter, highlight the important parts, reread before the exam. The unit of study is the solved problem

An hour of maths study should be measured in problems worked, not pages covered. Reading the section is the warm-up; the study happens when the book closes and you produce a solution from nothing.
